Makeup can work almost like magic, turning back time – even if only for a few hours.

When it comes to skin care, we know exactly what to do and what ingredients to use reverently to keep it looking younger and brighter as we age (retinol and vitamin C, we’ll never part with you!). It’s not the same with makeup. Things are more fluid there. One reason is that over time, the routine, techniques and products we once used don’t “sit” so well on the skin. The result is that the final look does not come close to what we wanted or imagined.

This is because skin tone, texture and elasticity have changed a lot since we were in our 20s and 30s . That’s why it’s important to adapt the makeup to our age and make the most of it by following a single basic rule: less is more ! The solution is by no means to apply an excessive amount of a make-up product to cover imperfections. There are other ways, which we will see below, to use makeup as a… time machine that will successfully camouflage the signs of aging.

1. Choose makeup products that will take care of the face

It is important to use makeup products that also have cosmetic benefits, that is, they contain ingredients that perform spectacularly in serums or moisturizers, such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and vitamins.

2. Keep skin fresh with makeup

Heavy or very covering foundation accentuates fine lines and wrinkles more. Avoid using a large amount of foundation! Prefer a light product that will give you a subtle glow and make sure to spread it evenly over well-groomed and moisturized skin.

Alternatively, you can use a tinted moisturizer, i.e. a moisturizer with color, for a lighter coverage effect. Finally, complete the make-up with a moisturizing mist for setting and extra boost of hydration.

Insider tip: Add two to three drops of face oil to the foundation for more shine.

3. “Warm up” the blush

The blush in the shades of soft coral, apricot and hot pink offers vitality and gives color. Thus, it immediately improves the appearance of the skin.

To get the most out of the blush, apply it in upward strokes from the cheeks to the temples. In this way you will create a lifting image on the face. Remember that cream and liquid blushes offer a light effect and glow that seems to radiate from within.

4. Choose eye shadows carefully

Dark colors weigh down the look, while they “run” more easily, smudge and emphasize fine lines around the eyes. Prefer beige, gold and bronze tones in creamy textures , and replace the black eyeliner with a brown or anthracite-grey color. With these two movements, your eyes will “open” immediately.

Insider tip: To brighten the eyes even more, add a dot of highlighter to the inner corner of the eyes.

5. Hide years from the lips

Young lips are soft, supple and bright. How can you achieve a similar image growing up? First, avoid matte lipsticks, because they don’t reflect enough light. Also, try a lipstick with a creamy and balmy finish in a coral or pink color, it will make lips look feathery in seconds. Don’t forget that too much lip gloss is not flattering, but looks tacky.

6. Soft nail colors

Neutral shades on short nails make the hands look more youthful, as they do not draw attention to them. Conversely, dark polishes emphasize signs of aging such as wrinkles, spots and sagging.
